“Overall, 22% of rated hospitals received two stars, 8% received one star. This means NHRMC scored in the bottom 30% of the nation’s rated hospitals.”
The Five Star Project was established in May 2024 in response to a near catastrophic episode of care at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Medical errors of this magnitude do not arise from individual incompetence but from multiple failures of the culture and systems needed to deliver high quality, harm free medical care. Correcting this culture will not be easy but the journey begins with education and advocacy. All members of the community need to understand what is at stake and how to protect themselves and their family. Currently patients are being injured and lives are being lost by substandard health care. This cannot continue.
Stand with us.
Dr. Jon Martell, MD Discusses The Five Star Project with WHQR.
New Hanover Regional Medical Center has received a 2-star rating out of 5 from Medicare, indicating a level of care below the national average. This assessment is grounded in objective measures of care quality, not subjective opinion. Consequently, the care offered at this facility poses potential risks of complications or even mortality for patients and their families.
