How to get to the top 10%

New Hanover Regional Medical Center has a stated goal to reach the top 10% of hospitals nationwide for patient satisfaction and quality metrics. It currently stands at average in patient satisfaction and below average in quality. So how can it get to the top 10%? By engaging in a structured quality improvement program such as the Studer Initiative or Baldridge Criteria.

According to Thomson Reuters, hospitals using the Baldrige Criteria were 6 times more likely to be in the top 100 hospitals and outperformed non-Baldrige hospitals in:

  • Risk-adjusted mortality index

  • Risk-adjusted complications index

  • Patient safety index

  • CMS core measures score

  • Severity-adjusted average length of stay

  • Adjusted operating profit margin

NHRMC is not meeting its goal, we need to advocate for a quality program.

New Hanover Regional is a two star Hospital. We deserve better!
